I saw a book a few weeks ago at the library called Planting Green Roofs and Living Walls. It’s an interesting read. If I’d have had more input in my house I might’ve tried to do some green roofing. I definitely want to put some supports up for climbers…sounds like it can make a big difference in heating and cooling bills, plus it gives back some of the house’s impact on the environment.
This week I heard a segment on OPB about some new permeable pavement the city of Portland is testing. I’ve always liked cobbles and paving stones like in Europe…seems like they should be more permable than a sheet of asphalt. Plus you don’t get all the utility cuts and resulting bumps in the road.
And while I’m on roads…Hyperion may just have done this as a clever way to get some free advertising or it may be genuine altruism. Either way, they’ve been all over the press this week. Today I read an article from the LA Times-Washington Post news service titled “Carmakers talk green, but products trickle out.” It would be nice if there were more incentives for cleaner cars.
