Thirty years

I didn’t get around to posting on the 14th as my birthday started with me heading out into the garden to do some watering only to find that my front yard sprinklers had some sort of a water leak on the house main side of the valves. Water was gushing from the ground probably at a gallon per second, had formed a lake about two feet deep and was spilling off north between the houses. Happy Birthday!

The sprinkler box had collapsed immediately after being put in as the installer did a completely half-assed job on the whole thing. It had appeared stable though for the last year and fixing it was actually moving up slowly on my list of things to fix. In the meantime the collapse had buried the irrigation cut off valve and eventually torqued the top off the irrigation’s bleeder valve, releasing the torrent. My water meter and its cut off valve turn out to be at the end of the street thankfully otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to stop the flood without scuba gear.
I called the builder (Alan Danforth aka Masterpiece Construction) as it’s still within the one year new home warranty and this was worth bringing him in over (compared to other things where he’s too much of a pain in the neck scoundrel to deal with) and there’s a properly installed box that is shored up such that it should be permanent now.
I took the day off in order to be around when the subcontractor came just in case it was the original person, who presumably needs some oversight to do a proper job. That allowed me to do some more rock work. I’ve got some large flat stones selected to pave around the side of the house by the irrigation boxes for a flat spot to put my trash bins. And I started whittling away the other remnants of my rock pile by paving the beginning of a path around the east side of the house. A few more days work and the rocks should all be gone! Finally.
I had a good chat on the phone with Jazmin and my sister, got a flag for the house finally (and up for flag day), had a delicious dinner made by Jenn and a delicious ice cream dessert made by Madison and was presented with a compound mitre saw. Now I really need a work bench.
