Trying a few things different in the garden this summer

Jenn suggested we try asparagus. We definitely buy a lot of it.
So, I bought three crowns and planted them this weekend. I’m not sure the soil is going to be exactly what they want. And I wonder if I need to buy a soil ph meter and keep their soil amended to their particular desired range. But it was less than $15 to give it a try. From what we found on the web I’m not really sure how much we’ll get or if we’ll even get anything until next year. Like everything else in the garden it will be a learning experience/experiment.
I also emptied a lot of compost out of the bin and worked it into the raised beds and terraces. The soil is getting so much better than when I started. The compost bin was a great purchase (right up there with a central-vac and nail guns as super for any homeowner). And I filled the compost bin right back up with a bunch of pruning and spring cleaning.
The potatoes are chopped and have short sprouts. Hopefully we’ll plant them in a week or two.
I dragged out and reconnected all of the irrigation. At this point things are pretty much ready for warmer weather and the main planting.
The biggest thing probably I did this weekend was to get my cooler weather seeds in the ground (nearly two months earlier than in the past I think). Spinach, broccoli, carrots, green onions and walla walla onions are in. Some other onions and garlic were already in and are looking good. I planted some new cilantro and basil in the little herb patch I’ve been trying to establish in the corner.
