The birds are now upon three weeks old. They’re huge compared to the last I posted…nearly a foot tall when they stand straight up stretching their legs and neck. The last week or so they’ve been in an awkward looking stage, but their feathers are starting to cover their bodies better lately. They’re starting to look teenager-ish.
One of the Ameracaunas has oddly curled outer toes. I’m working on straightening them with a bandaid rolled around the joint to encourage them to grow in a more proper direction. Seems to be working. The owner’s manual indicates that this should work.
The brooder box is slowly starting to seem small. They’re half way to moving into their coop. The coop and run are about half way ready for them. In another three weeks or so we should be done building.
My composter is already really benefiting from the pine shavings I’ve cleaned from the brooder box each week. It’s going to be great for our garden.
