Bill Gates describes why Mac mini is great
The Beeb's recent two part interview of Bill Gates has him pretty much describe that Microsoft and Apple are competing for the same space (without really saying it). Based on his criteria (simple and rich) OSX and a Mac Mini seem positioned to win in the media center market that is Gates' showcase for MS Windows.

Unfortunately, Apple still doesn't have the software to do it for video. I've seen some stuff for Mac OS X but nothing that's really polished. Best one I've seen for Mac OS X? Sarah Baucom's home-brewed AppleScript library. That's what I'd be using if the DVD players on Mac OS X were better.
Sounds like something's coming though. It is a logical next step in the whole iLife push. And Jobs has publically scoffed at what the market currently has to offer for home media centers. I know there are plenty of examples of bad quality assurance at Apple, but it seems like they might just be making sure they're got it sufficiently feature rich and polished for their typical market entry glitz.
Yeah. I'm just wondering how they're going to deal with the digital rights thing. They could just allow you to make a disc image of the DVD. But technology executives at CES made it pretty clear that the MPAA was the reason they aren't coming out with more DVD media servers.
