More Apple PVR speculation

| | Comments (3)

As soon as the Mac mini came out I had a PVR in mind and was hoping they'd partner with Tivo.

Currently the rumour mill says a media center is in the works and that a deal with Tivo fell apart.

The HD DirectTV Tivo's been priced outrageously and isn't very featureful compared to real Tivo's. If and when I go to HD I'll be looking at new options, so I'm hoping Apple's in the market as speculated.

I'm still very disappointed in the image processing quality of Apple's DVD player. I wish they'd make a decent player. And last time I tried VLC and MPlayer, the results weren't great. The playback timing was off, DTS didn't appear to be supported, and I think I need to adjust the colorspace or something.

Gah! This looks ugly based on these links:

Maybe I'm being too much of a geek when considering this all in the context of what is currently possible with commercial offerings, much less MythTV. I can see Apple going a very simplified commercial route on all of this. The iDrive thing sounds horrible though.

I don't think it looks too bad. Looks much cleaner than Microsoft's "blades" approach. I'm not sure what the iDrive is though.
