I'm going to guess Frontier isn't popping up in Juniper or Cisco or other network vendors' press releases as a proof point around increasing their internal network's abilities. From last summer's announcement (http://www.juniper.net/us/en/company/press-center/press-releases/2009/pr_2009_06_08-09_00.html) by Juniper of a 100 Gigabit Ethernet card:

"Verizon is targeting 2010 for commercial deployment of 100G," said Glenn Wellbrock, director of Optical Transport Network Architecture & Design, Verizon. "The trials conducted in our network to date have focused on proving that our existing optical transmission systems are ready to support 100G. What has been missing so far is a true 100G client-side core router interface, so we are encouraged to see Juniper announcing 100 GE interfaces for its T1600 routers. Given the growth in our FiOS, wireless and IP services, 100G is critical for the core of the network to scale efficiently and simply. By adding 100 GE interfaces to the T1600, Juniper is providing the capability to leverage existing assets to scale the core with maximum operational efficiency."

My largest model is a mere hundred or so "faces"...a few dozen pieces of dimensional lumber, so really quite small by most standards I'd guess.
And it is (at times) sloooooow. As in go get a coffee and then mow the lawn and get groceries and come back to move the mouse a little more if it's updated to be the centimeter I'd pushed it to before. It is a certainly odd though in that when it goes it is completely gone that far off the performance edge. It's been at times where I'm not even doing anything (ie: not panning the 3d model or doing something "in" sketchup....just literally moving the mouse around the window toward a UI element in order to ultimately click on it). Otherwise it is pretty much normal sort of speed.
I haven't had time to build and try profiling the latest wine. Was thinking if Fedora's rawhide catches up to 1.1.12 that'd nudge me to try again. I'm also a bit skeptical of the distro's 2.6.27 kernel as the scheduler's been interesting...this may not even entirely be wine vs. Sketchup.

Thanks for posting. So, how much slower is it
with your largest model? Can you quantify that
somehow?

It works pretty well on Wine for me.
Use the latest wine (1.1.11) for best results.
See wiki.winehq.org/GoogleSketchup for more tips (in particular, Sketchup doesn't recognize some graphics cards, and you have to set a registry key to bypass that).
Let us know how it works for you. If you run into problems, we'll try to fix them.

Tim,
It's great to hear Bigfoot ages well as I've put a few aside myself.
BTW - if you like Bigfoot, be sure to try the Alaskan Barleywine that's currently out and available at Belmont Station. It's a similar hoppy barleywine.
